Tired of computer errors? Listed here are three simple tips that you can follow to maintain an error-free, high performance PC. Clean Your Registry The registry comprises all software and hardware configuration data of your Windows system, and is one of the main sources of errors on your PC. Because all configuration information is stored in the registry, all programs and devices on your system need to access it to carry out their operations. In the process, they add, remove, and modify existing information in the registry. These frequent changes, at times, leave behind a lot of junk information in the registry which is obsolete, incorrect, or no longer required. Many times, removed registry keys leave behind empty registry holes that unnecessarily increase the registry size and fragment it. All these problems within the registry have a direct impact on your PC’s performance. A large registry eats up lot of system resources thereby slowing down your system. Over time, too many erroneous entries in the registry start generating various system errors, such as DLL errors, ActiveX error, Driver error and other fatal and runtime errors on your system. In severe cases, your registry may collapse and leave your system unbootable. To counter these problems, you must keep your registry free from unwanted information, and try to keep it compact and error-free. You can do this easily with the help of a good registry cleaner tool. Registry cleaner tools simplify the task of detecting and removing registry errors. You can also use these tools to defrag the registry and compress it and reindex the registry files. Thus, if you want to get rid of PC errors, you must get a registry cleaner and use it regularly to maintain a healthy registry. Maintain a Healthy Hard Drive After you have cleaned the registry, it is time to perform some hard disk maintenance. As you continue to work on your PC many unwanted program applications and files get accumulated in the hard drive—some you install and some come packaged with other programs. These programs unnecessarily clutter your hard drive and may even cause physical damage to it. Therefore, to prevent system errors, it is important for you to perform regular hard disk maintenance and keep the registry free from unwanted information. To start with hard disk maintenance, first open the Add or Remove Programs window from the Control Panel and remove any program or utility you no longer use. Next, from Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools, open the Disk Cleanup utility. Use this utility to remove all unwanted files and data from the hard disk. You can also use this tool to uninstall unwanted programs from your PC and compress old system files. After you have done this, select the Disk Defragmenter option from System Tools and defrag your hard drive. Defragging analyses your hard drive and then consolidates fragmented files and folders. This helps in reducing the burden on head of the hard drive and also helps in improving the performance of your PC. Perform Regular Antivirus\Antispyware Scans The most important activity to maintain a healthy, error-free PC is to ensure that it is well-protected against malware programs such as viruses, spyware, adware, worms, trojans, and backdoors. When our computers are connected to the Internet 24 hours a day, malware programs have emerged as a major threat for computer users. These programs copy several infected files to the hard drive and add malicious registry entries. Many malware programs modify existing keys to change the way various files are handled by your PC, thereby generating frequent errors on your PC. These programs also eat up a lot of system resources and therefore, may drastically reduce your system’s performance. To get rid of these malicious programs you must regularly scan your PC using antivirus and antispyware utilities. You must keep these utilities updated to ensure that you are protected against the latest malware. You may also use a registry cleaner tool to scan the registry and remove malicious entries added to it by malware programs. Following the tips mentioned here and being cautious
about what you download, open, or access from your PC, will certainly
help you keep your PC error-free and at its best performance.
